De Maiz was created from a deep passion for Mexican cuisine, and a dream of Norway having its very own “nixtamal tortilleria and molino” – a testament to our dedication to providing authentic and high-quality tortillas for our customers.

Unlike other inferior products that are made from dry corn flour, gelling agents, and preservatives, we pride ourselves on solely using fresh nixtamal in our products, that is ground using a volcanic stone.

Our tortillas and other nixtamal corn products contain four simple ingredients only: corn, water, sea salt, and lime. We are committed to paying homage to the rich and vibrant culinary traditions of Mexico and showcasing the endless potential of Mexican gastronomy. Our mission is to connect more people to the cultural and culinary richness of the Mexican kitchen – one tortilla at a time.”

What makes us different? 

The difference between De Maiz tortillas and other tortillas lies mainly in the flavor and texture. Our tortillas are soft, pliable, and have a rich corn flavor that can only be achieved by using fresh nixtamal. Commercial tortillas are often flavorless, dry, and crumbly. They may break when folded and cannot hold up to wet ingredients.

In addition to our retail options, we also offer loose-pack options for local restaurants. These tortillas are not vacuum-packed and must be consumed within two weeks. They offer numerous advantages, such as less packaging, being easier to open, no need to separate, and better retention of their shape.
